This Isn’t Just Cruise Life—This Is My Purpose

Every now and then, someone asks me when I’m going to leave cruise ships behind and begin a “real career.”

What they don’t realize is that I already have one.

My career just happens to cross oceans.

More Than a Job at Sea

Working aboard a cruise ship is sometimes viewed as an extended vacation. People see the beautiful destinations, ocean views, exciting parties and photographs from around the world.

What they don’t always see are the long hours, personal sacrifices, demanding responsibilities and constant commitment required to create those experiences.

Cruise life challenges you mentally, physically and emotionally. You live and work far away from home while serving thousands of guests from different countries, cultures and backgrounds. You learn how to communicate, adapt, solve problems and remain professional—even when you are tired or facing challenges of your own.

It takes strength to live this life. It takes an even greater sense of purpose to continue growing through it.

I Am Using My Degree

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, and the cruise industry allows me to use that education in one of the most dynamic hospitality environments in the world.

A cruise ship is more than a vessel. It is a floating hotel, resort, entertainment venue, restaurant complex and international community—all operating together, every hour of every day.

My classroom gave me the foundation, but the ships have given me real-world experience that cannot be taught in a textbook. I have learned how to serve guests, manage expectations, communicate across cultures, create engaging programs and remain calm when plans suddenly change.

My degree did not go unused.

It carried me to sea.

From Carnival to MSC

My journey began as an Activity Host with Carnival Cruise Line. That opportunity allowed me to discover what happens when my passion for hospitality meets my love for entertainment.

I’ve hosted game shows, led deck parties and created events that became bigger and more meaningful than I ever imagined. I’ve stood in front of rooms filled with people who began the cruise as strangers and watched them laugh, dance and make memories together.

Those moments taught me that hosting is not simply about speaking into a microphone. It is about reading a room, creating an atmosphere and helping every person feel like they belong.

Today, I serve as a U.S. Guest Experience Ambassador with MSC Cruises. My responsibilities have grown, but the heart behind my work remains the same.

I support guests, listen to their concerns, help them navigate unfamiliar experiences and make them feel welcomed, heard and valued.

Going from Activity Host with Carnival Cruise Line to U.S. Guest Experience Ambassador with MSC Cruises represents more than a change in title or company. It represents growth. It proves that every stage of my journey has been preparing me for something greater.

Turning Strangers Into a Community

One of the most rewarding parts of working at sea is watching a ship full of strangers become one unforgettable community.

Guests arrive from different places with different stories, expectations and reasons for traveling. Through game shows, deck parties, line-dance classes, social gatherings and meaningful conversations, those differences begin to disappear.

People laugh together.

They dance together.

They encourage one another.

They form friendships that may continue long after the ship returns to port.

Knowing that I helped create those moments means more to me than I can fully explain. Guests may not remember every announcement or activity, but they will remember how the experience made them feel.

That is the real power of hospitality.

The Dream Is Still Growing

My journey has not always been easy, but every challenge has strengthened me. Every ship has taught me something. Every guest interaction has helped shape the hospitality professional and leader I am becoming.

I am proud of where I started, proud of where I am now and excited about where this journey will take me next.

My dream is to become a Cruise Director—not simply because I want the title, but because I want the opportunity to lead, inspire and create unforgettable experiences on an even greater level.

I want others to understand that a career does not have to look traditional to be meaningful. Success does not always happen inside an office, and purpose does not always follow a predictable path.

Sometimes your purpose carries you beyond the shore.

This Is My Real Career

I am not “messing around with the cruise thing.”

I am using my bachelor’s degree.

I am building an international career in hospitality, entertainment and guest experience.

I am developing as a leader.

I am connecting people from around the world.

I am creating memories that will last long after the voyage ends.

This isn’t just cruise life.

This is my career.

This is my calling.

This is my purpose—and I am only getting started.
